Centre to host workshop on spine
Dubai

Dubai Bone and Joint Center (DBAJ), the premier center for musculoskeletal treatment and research in the Middle East, is hosting a conference and workshop focusing on the degenerative and deformity spine.

The event will be held at the Grand Hyatt, Dubai on November 20.

There are thousands of people afflicted with some sort of musculoskeletal disease and back pain in the Middle East and spine problems are the most common complaint. The meeting aims to highlight the impact of back pain and the need to improve the quality of care for patients with chronic back pain.

At the conference, Dr Zbiggy J Brodzinsky, consultant orthopaedic spinal surgeon at DBAJ, will also be announcing the launch of the Emirates Spine Society-ESS, the first spine society in the UAE, which will be chaired by him.

The ESS’ mission is to improve the quality of life for a large segment of the population living with back pain and chronic back deformities, as well as to reduce the burden of spine disorders on society. It aims to improve the quality of care provided to patients with spine and back conditions through leadership in the education of healthcare providers as well as the general public, a statement said.

The ESS will bring together specialists in spinal care to improve communication about latest advances in the field. The society is still under registration, but once officially listed, the plan is to hold six meetings a year to discuss challenging cases or advances, to maintain a website to disseminate information to doctors and the public, and to hold at least four public forums per year to educate the public on the risks and benefits of spine surgery, thereby enabling patients to make informed choices.

DBAJ is approved by Dubai Healthcare City-DHCC as an institute that can provide continuing medical education - CME. - TradeArabia News Service
