Shaikha Mai named Bahrain culture minister

His Majesty King Hamad has issued a decree renaming the information ministry as the culture and information ministry and appointing Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa as the new culture and information minister of Bahrain.

His Majesty described culture as a catalyst reflecting the identity of the nation and its distinctive character.

He received at Sakhir Palace Shaikha Mai, who was sworn in as Culture and Information Minister. Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa also attended the oath taking ceremony.

He highlighted the crucial role of information as a true mirror giving deep insight into Bahrain's society.

He also gave instructions to promote this vital sector and encourage gifted Bahrainis in literature, arts and theatre.

"It is of utmost importance for information to be a credible and sincere reflection of reality," His Majesty said, praising Shaikha Mai's credentials in culture and information.

The new minister's keenness to preserve and project the national heritage was also highlighted.

Shaikha Mai dedicated the project aimed at expanding the Muharraq-based Shaikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research to His Majesty.

The King praised Shaikha Mai and the centre's board of trustees' efforts to promote cultural activities and project Bahrain's rich heritage and civilisation .
to younger generations.

The King wished her success in her new responsibility to promote culture and information and highlight landmark national achievements.

Shaikha Mai thanked His Majesty for entrusting her with the mission; vowing to spare no effort to promote culture and information as a catalyst serving national issues. The Premier's directives were also praised.-TradeArabia News Service
